What happened to Agnes?

Hi all, i was watching this partly when it was on t.v. last night, in between ad breaks of what my husband wanted to watch, and i must have missed a crucial part of the story. What happened to Agnes? Why did he/she die? Was he/she gang raped by the american and his friends? And was that what the extremely thick blood was all about? I am very confused. It's probably not a movie to watch during ad breaks.
But if anyone can help me out, that would be cool.

Yeah I watched it too on Saturday night but I'm not quite sure what happens to Agnes..I don't think it's actually shown or spoke of in the movie, but it leaves us with the impression she was probably gang raped.

I'm guessing she did of AIDS, as she was a nightclub dancer/hooker.

What made you think that ?
As I recall, Agnes is just a nightclub dancer, no hooker.
Her boyfriend believed that she was sleeping around and kicked her out, but she said she never did.

And I saw no hint at all, that she had been gang raped.
As I remember, the Americans were leaving after the coffee to go to Rome and she stayed with that old lady in her apartment.

If her bleeding/death came from a disease or from the sex-change surgery ? I have no idea.

CAUTION: SPOILER
I have tried watching a movie during commercial breaks, before. Believe me, you won't be able to follow this one doing that.
Agnes had a sex change operation after she met Henry in New York. She mentions it, twice. The bleeding and the bad lab results the doctor's receptionist was concerned about may be related to that surgery.
There is a lot in this movie that remains unexplained / unexplored. As the title suggests it was about the three brothers.
But was Moritz Bleibtreu's character drawing the wrong conclusions about his father's and Agnes' relationship? Was the killing "justified" for sexual abuse committed during childhood?
Their mother was a mystery. Was the father bisexual or gay, and when did he come out?
I have to say after all that reminded me of a 70's case study about doomed characters in this movie, there were some surprise twists. And more redeeming qualities in the characters than I expected.

It's indeed a silly question as this is fiction only but it reminded me one of Bergman's (R.I.P.) greatest movies. If you saw Cries and Whispers, you know what I mean. It could even be a reference or tribute to the great master, or I'm totally wrong.

I got the feeling that Agnes' bleeding in the restaurant had to do with a problem during her surgery. Remember at the doctors office the nurse said something about her "numbers were low"? I don't know exactly what that meant but Agnes apparently didn't want to know the bad news because she didn't stay to talk to the doctor.

I also feel that the father may have had some dark things about him, but the son who shot him had a misconception of what he saw through the window. I assume he thought that Agnes was s**king off the father, which was not the case, but from where the son (forgot his name) was standing it could have been.

I thought it was a great film... . definitely Fassbinder style as it said on the dvd case.
