This IS a comedy... right?

After several unsuccessful, frustrating attempts, I thought I'd finally found a German comedy I could respond to, but then I came here and saw that nobody talks about this movie as if it's a comedy. Am the only person who thought it was very funny?

The brothers are so bizarre, I assumed they were supposed to be funny. I laughed aloud often, at Hans-Jörg's antics in the library, and at Agnes's opening monologue about the outlandish stories his father told about his birth in a getaway car and his mother's prison time, and at Werner's sh*tting on the floor while being generally such a pompous prick, and lots more. And I laughed at everything their father did. Surely that stuff was meant to be funny, right?

I was very grateful to think I might finally be able to appreciate at least one type of German humor. If I was wrong, and if this is a straight drama that's not meant to be funny at all, then I've made a big mistake.

A comedy! Yes! I laughed, and the good slow burn kind of laugh I usually only get from life itself. The movie has a distinct charm to it which made it a true cinematic surprise!

Also, Germans have an odd sense of humor. A friend when she was in Berlin saw the movie Boys Don't Cry; and she was horrified when the audience was laughing throughout the film. They thought that movie was a comedy.
