a slap in the face to hispanics?

Saw this post on a message board today:

"Heaven forbid a hispanic female should find happiness with a hispanic male - no - she needs to be saved by a white/black man and shown her true potential. Give me a break. MTV has been doing this kind of crap forever. Wait, isn't MTV and VH1 the same company? Wouldn't surprise me. MTV/VH1 want to give us the impression that this kind of crap qualifies as "diversity" when all they really want is to "save" (use) hispanic females from their male racial counterparts. You guys are a joke. I am telling evryone I know to stay away from this stuff."

Cute as she is...

She's hardly a Latina role model. She's a white girl with a tan.

Just because she doesn't act in a sterotypical way that most associate with hispanics doesn't mean she's just a white girl with a tan.
The movie, as cheesy as it was, is basically about a girl being who she is and accepting it. She wasn't "saved" by anybody. I think she found her own way to be a musician. :)

thank you im glad that someone took this movie for what it really was. not selling out but finding your true self and being proud of it. just because she doesnt end up with another hispanic doesnt mean that everyone is trying to change peoples background. to me it just sounds like the person who originated the message is against people of different races coming together. HELLO IT IS THE YEAR 2004....WAKE UP!
