the 8-6

what was the engine he gets put in the 8-6 in series two? and does he ever get a different car

reply

Dunno what the engine is called in season 2.
And yes Takumi sort of gets a new car to drive but he never used it to race at least not yet.

SPOILERS

Takumi has just defeated a professional racer and was driving on Akina. All of a sudden a blue WRX comes by and challenges Takumi. Takumi does his gutter run only to see the WRX also do the gutter run. It comes to no surprise later on that the driver of the WRX was Bunta. Bunta tells Takumi to start practicing with the WRX and learn the differences between it and the 86.

TRD Racing engine (don't know the code number).

I4, DOHC, 240hp@11000rpm.

TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Systems Group A-Class Racing Engine.

This engine was developed for the circuit version of the AE-101 Trueno/Levin. The engine is a very unusual one in that it uses 5 valves for each cylinder instead of the usual 4 (thus why you see 16-valve 4-cyl engines and 24-valve 6-cyl engines). While you could probably get the 4AG engine from a consumer AE101, you can probably forget getting the racing engine.

Since the engine is a 4AG mount, it can be dropped into an AE86 without too many modifications to the car itself.

Makes me wonder just what kind of a past Bunta has...

They really need to give us more narrative about Bunta. He's my favorite character yet we usually just see him smoking outside his tofu shop. D:

shinji is right. HP rating it should be around 240hp at 11,000 RPM's

Also, the one shown in the series was formerly an engine that used the VVT-i system, however on the Initial D 86, the system was disabled in favor of a high rev, high engine power.

The engine isn't all that disimilar from those found in the Toyota Atlantic Series cars.
