I just watched this movie again for the first time since it was released ...

and I saw it in the theater. Love Paul Verhoeven's movies.

I just watched this movie again for the first time since it came out in 2006 ... 14 years ago, and I had forgotten what a powerful movie this was.

I saw it recently too. It has a nice mix of drama, action, intrigue, romance and suspense. It's reminiscent of contemporaneous flicks like "Inglourious Basterds" (2009) and "Valkyrie" (2008). It's not great like the former, but it's in the same league as the latter.

Despite its length, the story movies along swiftly, albeit awkwardly on a couple occasions. Carice shines in the challenging key role and Koch is likable. There was one scene that I didn't find convincing, but it was forgivable. Unfortunately there's a twist in the last act involving a character that doesn't gel with the character's previous actions.

Watched this a few days ago for the first time. Very good movie. I don't know much about Dutch cinema but judging from some of the posts in here, it's not very good. lol....

The Dutch are tough on themselves. I can't believe some of the things they say but then again, I don't know much about it. Maybe it really does suck... :)

At any rate, Black Book is a 7.9 out of 10 from me.

Most movies with a strong woman lead get low reviews. That is America's sexist society. You see the same thing in for example "Walking Dead" where there were hundreds of attacks about Laurie, Rick's wife, and the same with Skylar, Walt's wife in "Breaking Bad". You never see that kind of bile directed at male actors for some reason, at least not without some reason.

I see, we are just the opposite here in the United States. Although, a lot of people do find it to be somewhat grotesque to have a strong female lead, we've been conditioned to think it's a good thing.

Personally, I don't care for it myself but it works in some films I suppose.

You agree with me. Wake up, slap yourself, throw some water on your face. ;-)

lol... yep, miracles do happen.

I didn't know you were dutch, Brux. That has changed my opinion of you, but not in a bad way.
