Not enough about Hawaiians

Personally I loved this movie...but they really did not give enough credit to the Hawaiians. They should have especially gone into some detail about Eddie Aikau...probably Waimea's most important surfing figure of all time. They barely even mentioned his name. I feel like the times where they did mention the Haiwaiians, it was too short and more or less out of obligation. The strange thing is, I know for fact those guys have a very deep respect for the Hawaiians...there are a couple nods in the movie, but I thought it was lacking somewhat.

"Eddie Aikau."

Yes, obviously. But the way they set this up, they centered around three particular stories and individuals among the big wave surfers. It's a format that could easily be repeated. I suspect they have another project either under development or in mind which would necessarily focus on Eddie, and some different surfers from this film. They need the moving footage, too, not just photos. They plowed through some photos, forcing you to use the pause on the DVD. It's the video that is interesting.

Of course, that photo off the point of that big wave taken by Noll - that's a photo. Darned thing looks like 150 foot face, or something.

I could be wrong, but when Riding Giants was being made there was talk about a "real" movie about Eddie, and I'd rather see a full movie about Eddie, then to have a few extra minutes in this movie.

Yes! Eddie was definitely mentioned and a couple of his rides at Waimea were featured.

Stacy Peralta produced Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau in 2013. It's well worth a look. Here's a link to the trailer.
