It wasn't necessary!

The russian roulette scene was pretty random and unnecessary. It was just a dumb scene filler. But the movie was really interesting otherwise.

Molly: Do you taste like chocolate?

Lizzie: I don't know, do you taste like vanilla?

I thought that was over the top. The only flaw in an otherwise great movie. People don't actually do things like that unless they're totally desperate or already suicidal.

It had nothing to do with desperation or suicide. It was a bunch of idiots who think they're "hard" and have to show each other that they have no fear by taking risks. This is behavior is very normal for this type of demographic. Not so much playing russian roulette but the attitude of showing off with risky behavior as a consequence of peer pressure. In this environment, these are the kinds of things that these people do to impress one another and earn street credibility.

I've heard many tales of "russian roulette" being played in alleys and card games in the 'hood. Also take into account these fools were high on weed and "liquid courage" (alcohol).

The scene was there to show young Suzette what kind of world she had stepped into.
