How did the neighbor know the teacher?

When the neighbor Jane meets the teacher Victoria for the FIRST times she walks over and before the mom even introduces them she says "Hello Victoria" and calls the teacher by her first name. Was there a past between them and if so, why didn't the neighbor warn the mom the teacher was psycho?
