I Just Can't Fathom Why People Seem To Prefer FFX Over This

Seriously, FFX was pretty crappy. I beat the game and it was ridiculously boring, the plot was awful, the voice acting was awful, and the gameplay was only decent. None of the characters were any good at all except for Auron and FFX happened to spawn the worst fans of all time.

FFXII on the other hand is ridiculously underappreciated. The storyline of it is great if you bother to actually pay attention (which FFX fanboys can't do thanks to being spoonfed everything in said game) and the music is an orchestrated masterpiece which I think is superior to many games of the series. And to top it off the gameplay is addictively fun with over 400 hours of optional amazing things to do. I love FFXII and FFX sucks.

FFX set a benchmark for Final Fantasy games to come. It was the first to feature voice acting, though it may come across as crappy, it was still new to FF games and would need to find its feet (by comparison FF12 and FF13 had superb voice acting). It was also the first to feature rolling maps (something put to EPIC use in FF12). All of the FF games after X owe ALOT to it in terms of features and gameplay. FFX was supposed to be like XII in exploration and enemies appearing on the map, but had to be scrapped at the time due to production value and the game engine that was used.

"I love FFXII and FFX sucks" is a pretty throwaway statement. I like both X and XII. And as for spawning the worst fans ever, I think FF7 fans have that covered in abundance.

The only FF game that has completly polerized fans, in my opinion is FF13, which I also think is a fantastic game.

Personal preference.

It's a beautiful thing.

FFX is a superior game.

The gripe I have with FFX is Tidus. Every Final Fantasy has a main character who is strong, confident, sometimes gloomy, but Tidus was whiny about his dad leaving him and how much he hated Jecht up until the very last portion of the game.
In terms of gameplay though, FFX was solid, I loved it, the music was great and story and character development aside, both FF12 and 10 were amazing games.

It's a sad thing that your adventures have ended here

FFX and X-2 killed the series. They are a complete betrayal and produced many laughable moments that are an embarrassment even to FFX fans, literally notoriously stupid and filled with nonsense. Indefensible.

In contrast FFXII is a very serious final fantasy with none of the lighthearted adventuring, ridiculously over the top plot elements, whimsical characters, love stories etc... Although it was set in a fantasy world they tried to keep it as realistic as they could which translates to some people as boring. They played it straight. It was a return to realism after such a long period of science fiction/anime/fairy tale style games that people just could not accept it. It's Ivalice, Politics and War, you either love it or hate it.

Final Fantasy X is so superior to this, it's not even funny.

Superior music (i.e.:to zanarkand, battle theme, main theme) vs bland and forgettable music in ffxii;

Superior story with a twist and more interesting characters vs bland story and characters with no growth whatsoever in ffxii (except Balthier);

Superior, more entertaining battle system and the summons in ffx are actually powerful vs ffxii where summons are crappy, and the combat system is something like a mmo who plays for you;

I could go on, and on, and on...

So in the end you could say "hey that's your opinion", and I would say the same thing about you TC. :)

The Story and Growth in X are absolutely terrible. It's as cheesy and convoluted as animes get.

The visuals, city design, open world, and combat in 12 are the best in the series.

I'm not going to break this game down because I like it as much as you do, but you're heavily underrating FFX!

The story was way more satisfying and different. The character mix was great with a constant development. You're also ignoring the 5 year gap in which game creation has seriously evolved. I bet if they had the same tools to work with on FFX as they had for FFXII that the superficial quality would be equal. The experience and possibilities they've gained throughout all those years is to be noted as well. Why do you think quality generally goes up for most games? That exact reason -> still the young progress in the digital revolution.

The fact that you rate many FFX aspects "awful" shows how little capable you are of rating games, and considering your opinion is in the opposite direction of the general positive response I'd say that's proven itself to very likely.

What do you think about the FF13 series? Aside from the stunning graphics I find them terrible. I'm playing XIII-2 as we speak but I'm having a hard time liking it. The music is just awful and I really dislike the paradigm system.
But it seems I'm one the few to have this opinion...

I agree with you that XII is way better than X but I can't say I haven't enjoyed X. I liked the story very much but acting and dialogue could've been a lot better. The musical score is one of the best ever heard (especially in the HD version). Also had a lot of fun collecting the celestial weapons (except Tidus, never got past the chocobo catcher race, not on ps2 or ps3) and the break damage limit really was awesome (makes the end rather quick though).

X-2 however is terrible. It's way too girly for me and I absolutely hated the battlesystem. Never finished the game on PS2 and it seems that I'm not going to see the end of the HD version either.
Only good thing in X-2 is Yuna's sideboob when she's dressed as a gunmage.

Even paying attention to it, I still have a hard time finding FFXII's plot interesting. Not that FFX's is the greatest, either. The last game with a great story was FFIX. Other than that, though, FFXII did everything great. MILES ahead of FFXIII; that's for sure. Characters are good. Setting is good. Epic boss battles. Great, memorable locations. HUNTS! XII is one of my all-time favorite games and definitely one of, if not the longest. I've maybe only spent more time on Skyrim. Very underrated game, I agree. And with so many negative people saying this game sucks, I don't know if we'll get another game like this. Now, all we get is uninspired crap like FFXIII or what's looking like the absolute worst game in the series, FFXV.

What most people seem to be missing is that they're all different... the designers played with different, yet similar ideas every time. Battle systems also all have their advantages or tactical RPGs would be found to be universally tedious (which they obviously aren't). Storylines are also like prisms... politics in XII, religion in X.

Perhaps you don't know that FFX is only half a game in America. If you get the PAL or INTERNATIONAL ... FFX just got a heluva lot harder!

Anyway, I'm playing FF12 for the second time right now. I have not managed to beat it yet but I want to see the ending.

Also I think Balthier/Fran are my fav FF couple. Like in all of FF. They're also my fav characters in that game.

Did you know FF12 has a second part on the old Nintendo DS? Called Revenant Wings!
