One true gem!!

I am still playing this game since it's release day, although some people see this game differently but this is the best of the series in my book.

People felt the need to trash this game because they couldn't have this game conjured into exactly the way they want it to be.Citing on they high horse, claiming themselves as hard-core fans, they forced they very personal
opinions into everyone who disagreed and deny any refutation!!

Dont listen those bunch of overly-fervent FFVII fans who understand nothing, but amazingly could still start boards and talk like they knew about everything.

I really like this game too ... plus I'm a FF7 fan, so there you go

I am not going to lie. FFXII is my favorite in the series thus far, I have two files and both with 120+ hours of game play. ;) Most of the people I talk to about this game don't like it for one of three reasons:
1. They didn't understand or even attempt to learn the battle system (all it is, patience and strategy... not that hard people)
2. They had to walk everywhere (that is generally how you travel right?)
OR
3. They thought the story line was boring because it didn't have a prominent love story.

I found every aspect of this game astounding. The VO was fantastic, the best I have ever seen! Gideon Emery especially though, he really brought Balthier to life. Aside from the VO the graphics (character and background) were beautiful. I load up the game sometimes and walk around just to see the locations. haha.
The storyline is what really attracted me the most though. I loved it because it was one of the only games aside from VII that didn't have a "Romeo and Juliet" feel to it. This was much more about politics (which turns many people off), the way things are run in government, and reasons as to why wars are fought. While at the same time everyone had some form of ulterior motive or duty that they felt they had to carry on with, which drove them forward.

I really don't understand why many people hate it so. I really don't.

Great things have happened in the world, but not to me.

I agree, especially with the story. And just to add to it, I like that what relationships there were between the characters, the developers left a lot of it behind the scenes, so that it was subtle and would only pop out for people who were looking for it (I.E. Fran's warming up to Penelo and Vaan, Balthier and Fran's possible romance, Penelo and Larsa's friendship, etc. etc. etc.).

I finished it two days ago and I loved it! I havent played many final fantasy's (Only finished IV,X and X-2) but I gotta say this one great game!

I'm the same as Porko. I've only played FFX, FFX-2 & FFXII. I was a little let down by the last two & find FFX the best of the 3. But I still enjoyed playing FFXII. I liked the gameplay & the Gambit system (added some strategy) & there are lots of things (sidequests) to do. I just didn't get into the characters & storyline like I did w/ FFX.

They kept the love story in the background this time which is frustrating since Balthier/Fran is my favorite couple in the entire FF franchise...so I'm screwed!

There's a bit more of them in FF12 part 2 Revenant Wings on the old Nintendo DS ... I'm in the process of getting that game!

I have played pretty much all the FFs, but I only spent a lot of time on 7, 8, 10 and 12. I really like 12 and I can't wait for 13. I am one of those people that kinda disliked 8 though. And I stopped playing 9 after a few hours. I admit I didn't give 9 a fair shake though.

FF7 is simply the best there is.
But that certainly hasn't stopped me spending about 200hrs on FF12.
The only downer to the entire series is FFX-2.

I loved this game and put over 100 hours into it. My main issue is the story line being very weak and the characters absolutely horrible. It seems they put a lot more effort into the everything else and forgot about the storyline/characters.

Other than that, great game. I haven't been challenged by an RPG in a while and I have to say some of the hunts in the game pushed you to the limit. Yiamat and Omega Mark XII brought my all the way back to Emerald and Ruby weapon in FFVII and were even more challenging. The world is immense with plenty of sidequests which is better than a lot of newer RPGs and I personally really liked the battle system a lot.

I think a lot of people didn't like it because on the outside it is very different than the other games and they didn't know how to use everything that was given to you to the full potential.

I'd probably say this is in my top four with VII being the best and II (japanese version) being the worst.

i just beat the game and i was only around level 50-58..it felt really weird and i didnt understand the storyline at all! i didnt even know i was battling the last boss, it was weird.

it was hard to understand the dialogue because the vocabulary that they used was complicated. i didnt really get into the characters too.

it was a fun game but does not compare to the other final fantasy's IMO unfortunately.

Believe me I'm with you...if you just follow the main storyline. I'd advise going back and going through the hunts, it's almost like a game within a game, definitely takes more time to do that than the regular story, haha.

I think I was about level 65 the first time (and I barely did anything other than the regular story) I played through and I beat the final boss in under five minutes. I was not impressed, then I lent the game to a friend a couple of months later and he got me interested in it and ended I up playing it again. Yiazmat (the hardest hunt in the game) on the other hand when I got to him the second time around took about 6 hours and would rape Ruby weapon.

There's a lot of random side quests to keep you occupied as well. So give it another try and just skip through the cut scenes. You're not missing much (except exceptional graphics).

...I wish they had chocobo breeding though, that was one of the most (annoying) yet fun optional sidequests.

(Another great thing they put in XII was one elite hunt where you fight Gilgamesh who is supposed to be the best swordsman in the world. When you get him down to certain levels of hp he says: "I've fought better..." and then pulls out different swords of people he's beaten some of which include the Buster Sword, the Gunblade and the Ultima Blade from FFV, kind of some great nostalgia)

FFX-2 is actually pretty good for what it is. it's a fun game and that's what it's meant to be taken as. i enjoyed playing it and in some ways i prefer it to FFX. it has one of the best battle systems i've ever seen in an FF game. i like how the fighters change positions in every battle and they interact with each other more than in FFX. the way the attacks are executed is great and its really fast paced. the dressphere system has been used in FF before so now just because the characters change clothes it's considered wrong? you have a lot more control over the story than you'd think. if there's a part of the game that you really don't like you can usually avoid doing it. and thank god you dont have to spend all your time hunting down new weapons

I'm gonna die of long hair!

I hear you. This one unfortunately gets a bad rap because it deviates from Final Fantasy conventions in many ways, ie the innovative gambits system which I find much more strategic and efficient than the others. Somehow a complex storyline couched in political intrigue gives people an excuse to decry this game as "plot-less". There is plenty of character development as well, subtly hinted at so that the more wary gamer will get a more rewarding experience from paying attention to the cutscenes. Well-written script and brilliant voiceovers, a thousand times better than the work done in FFX. Lush graphics and environments, great music, sidequests galore, enormous replayability value... Seriously, what are they complaining about? Their arguments are built on sand. Maybe they just don't get it?

It's 2015. Playing an FF game for the first time ever. My good old PS2 is capable of THIS? No wonder it took the Japanese people years to develop this one. A masterpiece. With serious topics and... Rogue Tomatoes! It makes “Kindom Hearts” look like a game of the previous generation of consoles. Almost cinema-cute.
