Maggie's Weight

I haven't found this anywhere, so I thought I would ask here.

Was it just me, or did Maggie Cheung seem especially thin in this role? I'm guessing part of the reason was to look more plausible as a heroin addict.

She seemed much thinner than when I've seen her in other films, particularly much thinner than in "Hero."

While not politically correct to say, I thought she looked great at that weight.

She did look good but I thought her hair looked like it had been styled with an egg beater. She is a beautiful woman and it is hard to make her look bad, but that hair? Eww...I was expecting a beetle to come crawling out at any moment!

The hair sealed the deal for maggie as a musician/addict/recovering addict.
Straight hair would have looked silly.

the hair was perfect for the role.
and i thought she was gorgeous with it...

It was definitely just for the role. The skinny frame and dishevelled hair were the perfect look for a recovering junkie.

MC has always been stick thin.

I think Maggie looked "healthy skinny" here – with a toned-up body that seemed to be in good shape. I honestly didn't buy her appearance as that of a heroin addict. Beyond the skinny frame and disheveled hair, she didn't have that gaunt, faraway look in her eyes that I tend to associate with heroin addiction. And where were the track marks and scabs?

Maggie did a good job in the role, but I just didn't buy her as a heroin user and a recovered/recovering addiction. Being skinny is not enough.
