A couple of anecdotes related to this film.

While watching the television broadcast of the ceremony where Brokeback Mountain won 3 Oscars and was nominated for another 5, my mother remarked something along the lines of
'They keep showing that asian gentleman. He doesn't look very pleased. They don't really like gays in Asia.'
I told her that he was Ang Lee, the director of the film.

Another time, after she'd seen the movie, she commented that both of the main characters were 'very immature'. I didn't respond, but thought that given the circumstances and time they lived in, almost anyone would handle their lives less than ideally.

All I know is, I owe this beautiful movie for giving me amazing things to scream at my friends while drunk.

Haha. I actually quoted this movie in a couple of situations. Usually to awkward results.

After fucking a guy, I said "I ain't queer or nothin'. This was just a one time thing."
He looked upset. I then told him I was only joking, and was quoting Brokeback.

lol Now that's funny.

Here's an anecdote of my own. While I am socially liberal and have no problem with gay men, for most of my life I would never dream of going to any multi-theater that was playing a movie with a gay theme. Frankly, BM is the only movie that comes to mind, but it seems there have been other releases where I just thought I'll have to wait until this film moves on before I can go to that movie house.
By now I think I'm over it, and I wouldn't mind seeing BM (love Ang Lee), but watching guys kissing and whatever is rather off-putting for me. I think I saw a lot of My Beautiful Laundrette before finally giving up, but that was in the safety of my own home, haha.

I understand where you're coming from. I don't usually enjoy watching lesbian sex in movies. Despite being very liberal, and bisexual, myself.
I've never stopped watching a movie because of such a scene, however.

I don't really enjoy going to theaters to see anything. I tend to wait until something is available digitally.
