What a waste

While I enjoy this show for so many reasons, I am appalled to see perfectly decent homes demolished in almost every episode. I can't imagine what the people at organizations like Habitat for Humanity think when they see newer, livable properties torn down when those homes (or at least the materials in them such as windows, etc.)can be put to good use elsewhere. On a couple of episodes, the crew makes a big deal about recycling some of the material but, for most shows, everything gets wasted. Last Sunday's episode is a perfect example. Yes, those little boys needed more space in which to navigate walkers, etc., but, come on, with all the money ABC tosses around, what's a little extra to simply relocate the home to the land of another needy family? This one aspect of the show almost completely takes away from the "feel-good" ending!

And, BTW, what's with sending some families with children to places like Whistler, Canada??? Why can't every family with little kids go to Disney?

I agree with you about demolishing some of the homes, because a few are still good. The house this past week seemed like a perfectly good home, the floor plan just happened to suck for the family. I think when the families apply for the show they are given choices of where they'd like to go, they are all Disney vacation pkgs. I was suprised that the family this past week chose Disney World since one of the boys is in a walker and I don't think he would really be able to enjoy the rides. They should have gone on a Disney cruise.

Good Im not the only one who thinks this aspect of the show is wasteful! Like the other posters have said. If the house just needs some updating and renovating...why not just move the house and donate it to a family that doesnt have a home. Or even in the case that the house is not salvagable....strip it for components that could be recycled. I know this would take a little extra time, effort, and cash but Im sure it could be done! And then not only would these homes be amazing but the entire effort would be amazing. Plus they need to downsize the homes a little, I feel bad for some of the winners who are now in financial straights trying to keep up with the cost of maintaining such a large home.
