American cars....What the heck?

Okay, this going to be a tough question to ask for those who watched the EM:HE. In the show, they give makeover family a car and all of the makeover family have a Dodge, Ford, Jeep, Toyota, Honda, Chevrolet and many more. But what about European cars? Or maybe a sport car? Like Ferrari, Subrau, Lambo, Aston Martin, BMV, Audi and Mercedes. They should put some European cars instead of American cars to the makeover family on the show. Do you agree with me about this? Or no?

On what planet is Subaru a sports car?

What is a BMV?

reply

Oh, I'm sorry Subaru is not a sport car but it is an automobile that made in Japan. BMV stand for Bayerische Motoren Werke AG and it made in Germany. So if you don't about car, try to watch Top Gear or reading off Motor Week magazine and it will help to learm more about different kind of car that you like whatever you love it or hate it so much the most. I hope this will help with your answer.

OK. How can I do this simply
1) Ford is a primary sponsor of the show. That explains why a lot of the families who get new cars get a Ford.
2) Most of the cars (if not all) are practical vehicles. Usually SUV, crossovers and hybrids.
3) The cars can't be too expensive, otherwise the families who are in financial distress couldn't afford the insurance.

4. It's an American Show...filmed in the United States!!

reply

Sponsors, dude.

Have you ever noticed on episodes where the family is awarded a new Ford SUV, every commercial break has at least one Ford commercial? Plus, American cars (especially family-sized vehicles) are cheaper to purchase, insure, transport, etc than imports if you live in the United States.... now, why the heck would you suggest a Ferrari?

Is the crew going to roll into town and help some ten member family living in a double wide by buying them a $150,000 two-seater sports car. No, they're going to get them a gigantic, $30K ten seat SUV/Cargo van.

Also don't forget that the family will be responsible for insuring the vehicle when they receive it. Boring american cars are typically pretty cheap to insure.

reply

Nailed it with the sponsors thing. Ford sponsors the show, Fords are given away.
You are also right with the insurance. One of the downsides to the show is that the increase in property values come an increase in heating bills and taxes, which can financially burden the family.

reply

The only thing that really bothers me, and I know it's an American thing but still, is that they always get the hugest gas guzzling car the team can find. How about showing at least some awareness and giving them a hybrid or normal size family car.

reply

The only time recently I remember them giving a large vehicle was when they gave a large family a ford flex or a working family a new truck. I have seen quite a few fusion hybrids on there.

reply

One reason for all of More mainstream cars is cost of maintenance. European cars and sports cars are nice but are a fortune to maintain.
Insurance is a bit less as well.

reply

Is this a serious question? Give them an Aston Martin??

reply

Toyota and Honda are Japanese and it's BMW, not BMV.

reply

Remember just like property taxes that have to be paid when the house size is doubled, you have to pay car insurance as well.

A foreign sports car is going to cost more to insure.

reply

They may be Japanese owned but many are built in the USA.
