Was it all a dream?

Am I the only one who wondered that? That first time he puts on the costume, he takes a pretty serious fall. And then he gets up and suddenly he's living this idealized fantasy. The only thing that keeps that theory from working is some of the strange alien stuff that went on before hand, but I still can't help but wonder if the implication that the whole thing could be a delusion of the main character was something the filmmakers intended.
