Perhaps his mother couldn't read and he wrote the letters just to feel better or to be with her in his mind.
shareI thought it very likely she couldn't read, but illiteracy in various times and spaces never completely stopped letters. There was often someone around to provide reading/writing service. Just like Qes Amra helped Shlomo, there might be someone in an Ethiopian refugee camp to help his mother
