The "Jesus" scene and "In the Beginning was the Word"

In two scenes in the film, "Shlomo" declares things that would have given him away as Christian:

In the first, when asked "who founded our religion", he responds "Jesus" and elaborates on it. Yet no one seems to get upset about this. (And it seems that throughout the film, people are trying to weed out the "not real Jews".) Was the teacher and/or class's reaction edited out? Did the filmmakers not understand that there would be a reaction? Or, considering the hell these children had gone through to get to Israel, it didn't matter?

In the debate contest, he cites "in the beginning was the word", which has its origin in the New Testament (accepted by Christians, but not by Jews). The reaction is wild applause. Was this a lack of understanding from the film-maker or was this deliberate (i.e., Shlomo's audience did not know any better, or, again, "it's OK")?
