I'm debating whether to see this movie or not. I have two issues:

1. Could you give me some non-spoiler examples of why the movie was rated the way it was? I'm a fan of Studio Ghibli and loved Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies, and Only Yesterday, which are the studio's three PG-13 movies, and I liked Satoshi Kon's Millennium Actress. How does this film compare to all of those?

2. Is this movie really that good? I've heard loads about it, but I don't want to spend time and money tracking it down if it's really only so-so.

Well, I saw it. Personally, I thought it didn't deserve its PG-13 rating. It should have been R. I guess I shouldn't have put so much trust into the rating system. I did think it was very realistic and really showed how people really are.

Grave of the Fireflies was rated PG-13? I thought it wasn't given a widespread enough realse to be rated.

I find a little giggle-gas before I begin increases my pleasure enormously.

The back of my DVD says "no rating", but several sources say it's PG-13. I think that's what it deserves, really. I'm not sure if the collector's edition had a rating.

R? Why would Tokyo Godfathers be rated R?

A second and a half of bare breasts? Breastfeeding, not anything porn-like. But, for many people, any sight of human female nipple = R rating. Think that's silly myself, but hey.

True, but Titanic featured more nudity and I don't really see anyone claiming it should've been rated R.

Yeah. When it comes to these split-second things there's not a lot of consistency. I don't remember if there were any F-bombs dropped.

It could have even been the "it's a cartoon" thing. Breasts in animation might be, for the MPAA, more offensive than live flesh and blood breasts.
