Isn't it weird...

That that old man and his sick wife abstain from attending the Kranks' Christmas Eve party because the wife was feeling too sick to make it, but then Tim Allen goes and gives him the cruise tickets? One minute she's feeling too crappy to make it across the street; next minute she's up for a big trip like that? Seems like a glaring error to me.

WOW! Well spotted! I totally missed that! That is a glaring mistake!
However... As bad as this film was... I've seen worse.

My, you're nosey, aren't you?

Not to be the fun crusher here but maybe the cruise was supposed to be the miracle that uplifted her spirits and gave her a 2nd wind if you will. I doubt your neighbors Christmas party would perk you up as much as a feud ending cruise.

Sorry about your friend, hope.

Anyway I just figured they were making an excuse because they didn't really want to mingle with people at a party hosted by a man who'd been feuding with them (well the husband and the cat anyway) all month.

I assumed they were just wanting to spend their last Christmas alone together. Also, a cruise and being in a room full of people you have to make an effort with are different. A cruise would be more relaxing than a Christmas party.

Exactly. They don't have to go on the excursions; if they just sit on the deck and relax, eat dinner in whichever restaurant fits her level of energy... maybe see a show if she's up for it....

Decades ago, patients were sent on cruises to relax and get some fresh air.

I have a friend who is only in her late 40s dying of cancer. There are times she is too sick to make it to church or go out other places like to see her young son playing sports. But, she went on a cruise a few weeks ago. It was a gift from a cancer organization. Kind of like Make a Wish Foundation but for adults.

My point is the cruise likely is a once in a life time trip before she dies. Of course she is going to attempt to go on it. As my friend said if she has to spend a day or two in bed what better place to be stuck in bed? She could even lay out on the deck and rest but at least she is able to enjoy a cruise.

I'm sorry about your friend's cancer. Nice that she got to go on a cruise while she was able to enjoy it.

Why is this movie on our Christmas playlist? Because as cheesy as it is, and as jerky as the neighbors behave towards the Kranks, they all help out when they find out they are in need.

That is the message that we like to take away from this film.
