Why did John Grisham write this?
just seemed out of character for him to transition from suspense novels to this garbage. Was there an alternate reason anybody knows of? Movie seemed rushed and not thought out.

shareIt's been a couple of years since I read the book and I just saw this movie for the first time but from what I remember, the movie was actually pretty acurate except that it was made a little more corny. The book had a more dark aspect to it. As far as being different from his normal writing, maybe he just wanted a change from lawyer suspense to do something fun.
shareA change of pace perhaps? I know when I'm a writer I'm not going to stick to any one type of fiction.
shareMaybe just for the $$ - I've noticed that Christmas-themed novels are showing up more and more in bookstores around the holidays - mostly mysteries and romances. I thought Christmas with the Kranks was cute and different from all the other Xmas novels, an amusing little story for those few free moments we get during the busy season. Then with the movie rights being purchased, KA-CHING!
shareGrisham has done several non lawyer books
I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney, than driving with Ted Kennedy
I'm reading the book currently and I think it's great! Gonna watch the movie again closer to Christmas. I'll also be done with the book by then. Tim Allen is my FAVORITE ACTOR EVER! He's HILARIOUS!
HOME IMPROVEMENT IS THE FUNNIEST SITCOM EVER!!!
So everybody has to be a one trick pony or else there's something amiss?
EIGHT STROKS OF RYRE - Beta Grandfather Dorin
I'm glad he wrote it.
