Yeah, I also wondered how popular canned ham really is...

Canned ham like in the movie probably not so much. As the other poster said, she wanted that particular kind because it was her daughter's favorite. Ham in general though is pretty popular, at least among the people I know. Pretty much everyone does turkey at Thanksgiving and ham at Christmas

reply

Yes. My mother inlaw serves it every Christmas. I love it!

My family cook ham on either Thanksgiving or Christmas, but usually on Christmas we always have ham.

I will confirm that ham is a really popular Christmas dinner entree--not as much as turkey is at Thanksgiving, but it is huge. Now this canned ham in the film...not so much. But they were eager to set up the movie's stupidest scene where after spending an (unstated) fortune to buy the ham from the other customer, she is walking along in the parking lot swinging the heavy canned ham in the lightweight plastic bag, setting up the bag breaking and her futilely trying to run after it. It was also stupid for her to stroll through the parking lot and not pay attention to where she was walking.

Nobody with a positive IQ would be swinging a heavy object in a grocery store plastic bag because they are known to often break even if just carrying the heavy object normally.

Why don't we just shoot 'em down and be through with it?

Yes! We get Honey Baked Ham every year for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

For our family it is. I buy a Cumberland Gap ham. It's not nearly as big as Honey Baked hams, or any spiral sliced ham, but our family likes it. I don't think most people use canned hams, though.
