What a surprise and what a gem. I love the slow pace, the cinematography, the message: the whole enchilada. The haters on this board remind me of the clueless, half dead old people in the home who didn't appreciate Schultze's music. Like water off a duck's back .... they don't bother me.

It's one of my new favorites. <@) ( _ヲ ^^^^^^^
Then it won't bother you that for me this movie is mostly pretentious slime. For reasons here my post of January this year:
Wouldn't call it the "worst film" cause it has its moments. But agree so far that I didn't like this movie at all. Though it shows many wonderful pictures full of atmosphere, it shows also too much stereotypes.
Never saw such a german German...or better so much very east-german Germans. Yes, it's meanwhile more than 10 years ago what doesn't change much. It's ok to use some clichés but please don't present them as plain truth! And please don't use a kind of documentary style to make it more true (what it's not).
Somewhere here on the board was said that the director grew up in East-Germany. That's wrong. The director Michael Schorr was born and grew up in West-Germany. After break of the wall he studied film/director in Potsdam, close to Berlin. Even wouldn't call it an independent movie cause it was financed with government money. ZDF is a public service broadcaster.
Basically I like the idea of the plot...restarting your life though (or because?) you're fatally ill. Leastwise don't sit in the corner and cry yourself to death. Better stay open minded, curious and enjoy even the last minutes. In this sense would recommend "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" (1997). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119472/?ref_=fn_al_tt_4 In this german movie are also stereotypes but easy to figure out. And it's very funny...well, sometimes very sad...but in a positive way.
What does a german oak care when a hog rubs it. reply share
