So, ah, any news on this?

Well, I loved the book and has always wanted to see it arrive on the big screen.
I got thousands of questions, being an avarage fan of Arthur C. Clarke, but I got really just one question I wonder about the most, namely: is this the same thing as the movie described on this site: http://www.rendezvouswithrama.com/index.htm ?

Thanks for any answers. :)

Yes, it's the same movie. I wish I could tell you more. This film has been "in the works" for years, but doesn't seem to be developing. Personally, I am a big fan of the works of Arthur C. Clarke, and particularly loved the RAMA novels. I would love to see this hit the big screen, but I suppose all we can do is wait.

And wait.

And wait........

....and wait some more.

Arthur C Clarke is great! It's hard to believe that so little of his works have been made into movies. It's kinda strange. Anyway, looks like this project just remains in limbo.

This is not the same movie. This entry in IMDb is a student film that got listed because of it's name. The movie from the website is "in the works" and the only thing for sure is that it will star Morgan Freeman because he is the primary investor in the film company that holds the rights to the film. I would really like it if IMDb would put a big disclaimer on this listing - or at least add a listing for Freeman's film so users could comment on the correct film.

last i heard, david fincher was set to direct and they were kicking around visual ideas. morgan freeman was gonna be one of the characters, but i heard that before i read the book so i'm not sure what character he was supposed to be.

now it looks like they have someone else directing (way to go givin another one up fincher), so i'm not sure where it all stands now. i just finished the first novel earlier today, and can't wait to start reading the second one.

also, what's up with imdb putting the (2003) and (V) on this? was it released on video in 2003?!? where was i?

anyway, i have my fingers crossed that they make it an intelligent science fiction movie and wish that fincher would do the damn thing....or ANYTHING for that matter.

Morgan Freeman would play the maincharacter. Not sure whats his namne ´cause i haven´t read it yet. But I will. And I hope Fincher will make this into a movie. It might be all CGI. I beleive it´s Freeman´s own productioncompany who owns the rights for it.

this imdb listing was a video short released in 2003, hence the (2003) and (V).

the FILM is still in pre-production, and has no listing.

The live-action version of this film is now again without a director. David Fincher was to direct the live-action version but he's left the project. Also, since Morgan Freeman (who owns the rights) was injured in a car accident in August 2008, there could be some additional delay (assuming the project isn't just shelved). Morgan is supposed to play Captain Norton himself.

I'm not sure why this is being confused with Morgan Freeman's project. This is a 4 minute video by a New York film student. It has nothing to do with the Revelations Entertainment (aka Morgan Freeman's production company) project. To my knowledge, IMDb does not have an entry for the real movie. It is listed at Revelations Entertainment's page as a work in progress. In news releases, it was listed for possible start in 2003, then in 2004, and now in 2006.

Recently David Fincher was attached to this film but it seems to have fallen through. Bummer.

I would really like to see this project move forward. Does anyone have any info or connections? This would be a GREAT SF extravaganza.
