im also curious about this.

does it portray him as some saint in prison? or does it show him threatening prison guards and burning one and ordering his gang members to kill fellow inmates?

Absolutely none of that is depicted in the film, nor is the fact that he never repented for his murders nor refused to cooperate with police regarding them.

Barbara is questioned by people like her agent who considers her as having "fallen" for Tookie and being seduced by a madman but beyond that there's little actual deliberation about whether Tookie is at all sincere.

It just pretty much presents him as a totally reformed convict right off the bat.

The star of the movie was a Tookie Williams supporter. I doubt he would be in it if it showed the true nature of this low life scum.

not at all, but they don't portray his as a monster either. i think the film did a good job showing all sides, his crimes are not justified, but you see where he was coming from at that time, how he changed his point-of-view, his regrets and turning his horrible mistakes into something positive.
