Why can't people forgive?

We know he was a scumbag, but even if he did these horrendous crimes, he tried to make amends for these atrocities. Do these type of persons not deserve a redemption title? do we honestly believe or trick ourselves into believing we are better then Stan?

we think and do bad things as humans everyday..why do we deserve forgiveness, but Tookie doesn't? redemption is something worked for or earned, surely he did at least 1 good thing b4 he died that impacted a life or lives...? just saying.
