After watching this. I cannot believe that the people who made this movie actually took it seriously. So, please tell me this movie is one big joke on us.

shareI spoke to the director, Christian Viel, yesterday.
Here's what happened.
They shot a "proof of concept" about various techniques, creatures and effects. What was planned was a 30 minutes short to see what they could do on limited budget.
The distributor (or someone else, not sure) said "turn this into a full movie". And that's the result.
I haven't seen it yet. But the sequel was presented at the Fantasia montreal film fest and it was impressive. Recon 2022: The Mezzo Incident.
They have already secured *REAL* funding for the 3rd installment since apparently the movie is very very popular in Asia. There are even possibilities for a tv series.
Power Corps was done on a 50k budget (Canadian dollars, I think), and they did not want to disclose the budget of the second one.
So.. Took it seriously? No. Not really. But as a joke? well, not really either.
Recon 2022 is still falls a bit short of a "serious" film. The director presented it as a American Pie meets Starship Troopers. but it's definitely on its way to something solid for the 3rd.
