what would have been, if...?

*SPOILER*
the movie ended with him ending up getting divorce from the white girl
and having a family (he got her pregnant) with the sister of his
brother-in-law who he was forced to marry for his own sisters sake.
At the latest when I saw who the indian (punjabi) girl he was to marry
was played by, I knew the film would end either this way or - what
actually was temporarily the case in the movie - looses both wifes...

BUT: What *if* he actually loved Sally? I really had my hopes up for
seeing how he would be able to set this marriage thru with his Punjabi
family... aside from the simple conflict of a doubble-marriage situation
the whole modern problem of mixed marriages (especially between Punjabis
and Goras) could have been adressed and (maybe??) even solved(!)

With the not all too resent but nevertheless fresh in mind case of a
canadian sikh-family, that had their own daughter murdered for
secretly marrying a low-cast from their own homevillage in india,
the bridge to how they possibly might accept and respect even a mixed
marriage would have been controverse and might have pushed some buttons
that - I think - really would need to be pushed.
Just to rely on a baywatch-babe for the success is surely calculated,
but rather sad to see.

With originally the "second" nuptial night not consumated; coming back to
the U.S.A. having the right intention of telling Sally the whole truth:
He theoretically would have had the option to stay with Sally and call the
second marriage void thru the fact of having being married legally before.

Sooo: What if he had done just that?
