Where's Grendizer?

I've been wondering about this. After the original "Mazinger Z" series there was "Great Mazinger" - and then there was "UFO Robot Grendizer" (AKA Goldorak in France & Quebecq).

However, there's no mention of Grendizer at any point in the series. Was there a deliberate decision to ignore that series? I know at the end of the series Duke Fleed (Actarus in the French version) took Grendizer back to his home planet in order to rebuild it, but still it seems like they just pretended it never happened.

Does anyone know? Does anyone CARE? ;-)

I think there have been some copyright problems in the past. But from what I heard, the main point is that Go Nagai doesn't want Grendizer and Mazinkaiser to be confronted, since both are supposed to be the mightiest robot ever, and Nagai doesn't want to sort it out between the two.

Thanks for your feedback! I read about that being the reason. So Mazinkaiser takes place in some alternate reality...

Or Grendizer does, however you want to look at it. :-)

Mazinkaiser is definitely the one taking place in an "alternate reality", since it retells and reinvents the story of the first "Mazinger Z" serie, while "Mazinger vs Great Darkness General" retells "Great Mazinger". It is no sequel to Mazinger, but a bona fide remake/tribute.

That makes sense, I guess. Does that mean we are going to see a Grendizer remake as well? That would be the coolest thing ever! (Yes, I'm a fan. How did you guess?)

But then I understand Grendizer never was a big success in Japan itself. So maybe not?

Two different new series were made for Getter Robo also. So I suppose they'll make a remake one for Grendizer soon.

I was never really a fan of Grendizer myself, but I do acknowledge that he was popular.
That said, I don't think that they will be doing any tributes for him. The main reason being that Mazinkaiser was orignally created for the game series Super Robot Wars after the makers decided that the orignals Mazingers were becoming too overpowered by newer robots. Due to its popularity in the game, it was given it's own OVA series and movie.

Unless I am mistaken, the same is true for the new Getter Robo also.
