I am reading the book now. Does the book have a different ending does paul die in it ?

I read it, but now can't remember. I'm pretty sure that he does not, but then neither does she, that much I do remember. She is in the hospital and hearing all around her. Well, maybe she eventually dies, but not in the garage like in the movie.
