Overused 'children laughing' sample

I really enjoyed this movie until I heard it. It's so overused and cheesy, and really ruined the mood.

It's much worse than the famous Wilhelm Scream (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_scream) just makes one chuckle.

A message to film-makers: Don't use it!

reply

You mean the one that's always used in blurry, slo mo flashbacks? Like the beginning of Face/Off? Yeah, I hate that one.

reply

Wow, I always think of that too, AND that it is so much worse than the Wilhelm Scream! That laughter sample is also used in the very childish (but entertaining) video game Diddy kong racing for the Nintendo 64.

reply

yeah i recognized it too

isnt it in the game Rollercoaster Tycoon too?

reply

Amazing I'm not the only one who remembers it from Diddy Kong Racing!

reply

It's like the Police Radio sample they used, Heard from Grand theft auto and all other police movies :-) Getting annoying.

Ugh yea, I recognize that sample and all of them really, I know all the canned ones, and it drives me up the wall every time I hear any of them. There's that creaking door one and all sorts of stuff. If I ever make a movie I'll insist all the sound effects are made fresh daily!

reply

I agree too. The second I heard it I thought about my old computer (it had it as the start up / shut down sound). I wish they would stop using overused stock sounds period (except for comedic purposes). Really is annoying and makes you think about something other than the film.

reply

How far into the film is it?
I wants to hear what yous guyses are talking about!

reply

Hahaha and here I was thinking I was alone in remembering it back from Diddy Kong Racing.

I hate that sound clip. The other day I heard it in like... three commercials. Really, WHY does it keep being used?!

reply

i hate repetitive sound clips!

THANK YOU!! I have talked about this horrible overused child laugh for years! I have tried to explain it to people and they think I am nuts or something. I hate it so much.
Make it go away please, someone!

reply

You guys realize most of the audio is made/redone in post? So, small sound effects that merely help a scene feel like you want them to cannot be made "fresh daily". If you want 100% reality, get off imdb and go outside. Suspension of disbelief people.

reply

Whatever, don't be a dolt.
Stock sounds can be refreshed. I've done it myself. So if a simple multimedia student has access to thousands of sound bites then I am sure professionals have a wider array of selection to choose from.
It is simply easy and lazy to buy up old overused sounds.

reply

Ah, yes. I noticed that when I was watching it as well. It's in the video game Fatal Frame. Can't they record children laughing? How hard can that be.

"You bet! Hit me on the slant!"
