cahill's treatment of charlie

Lots of times when I am reading book reviews, a thing I like to hear is that the author has a genuine care for his characters. I'm not saying that I like to believe that the characters are real people that the author cares for or anything like that, but in the way that he writes and connects the audience to the characters, there is clearly a genuine concern for this made up being.

It's a concept that took me a long time to understand, but looking at charlie, I felt that way. Though there were moments when the film was bordering sentimentality-overboard, there were moments when, even before the end of the film, that you could see Charlie in this tender, caring light. I may sound like an idiot, but I really think one of the best parts of this film is Cahill's direction which made Charlie seem crazy and wonderful and selfish and loving all at once. I was often confused by him, but the direction, and the music choice as well, made me feel connected to him.

Great film. Great job by Cahill. Same with Michael Douglas (heck of a beard, I must say).
