Can someone please explain the ending? (Spoilers!!)

The ending leaves a lot to be explained. For example- the first time when Charlie dives- does he retrive the gold? If yes then how come it is not shown him retrieving anything? The scene with the second dive- when he takes off his oxygen tanks- what is that suppose to mean?

The product number which Charlie gives his daughter- is that on the show rack or hidden as in inventory? It seems highly unlikely that anyone else could not see what was inside the dishwasher before she opened it up?

And lastly how the heck did she get her car back?

A lot of unanswered questions but a very good movie in the end!

Cheers folks!

You can see Charlie carrying something when the police are looking for him. This could well be the treasure, but it's not certain.

He told Miranda he found it, but couldn't get all of it, so he had to go back.

When the police arrive at the hole he dug, you can see some concrete falling into the water and it seems like the passage back is blocked because of this. Also, at the point where he takes off his oxygen tanks, the passage probably was too narrow to go through with oxygen tanks.

But it's clear from what he said earlier to Miranda, that he wasn't intent on coming back up after the second dive even if he could. Maybe he thought he found his destiny or something. I'm not sure.

I don't think the product number was hidden. I think he just assumed she would be the first looking inside the dishwasher.

She got her car back after the fight she had with him about selling it. He sold his bass, and it's implied that he used the money to get her car back. The car is back when she arrives from work that day.

Hope this helps a bit.

You could actually hear the doubloons clinking as he carried them through the store. That part is no mystery. What we don't know for sure is if he managed to find a way out of the tunnel. It seems he did but the film leaves us wondering.

sometimes if you catch enough clues, you can deduce what happened.
other times, (most euro films) you have to make up your own ending.
