the speech all seemed to be a bit slow...

Hi,

Just watched the film last night. I was wondering, did anybody else find that they all talked a bit slow? Not just the two kids. Maybe this was deliberate so that the film would be better understood & accepted abroad (?) but the Belfast accent seemed kind of forced.

yeah people find it hard to understand belfast accents so they slowed it down

That's a real pity. There's no need for that - if you take a look at Ken Loach's Sweet Sixteen (a great movie btw), the Glasgow accent was (for me) extremely difficult to understand but that's what sub-titles are for - I'm happy to read them. I'd much rather hear true Glaswegian than "faked" Glaswegian that the director thinks the masses might understand.

Still, even slowed down Belfast accents are better than none at all.
