Anyone recognize the location for shooting this film? I thought it was a really nice location and the cast all looked like they belonged there, dressed right, etc. but I didn't know the probable tip-off object (the bridge) so just curious where it was.

The bridge in the film seen from the father's apartment is the Skytrain bridge (elevated rapid transit)over the Fraser River connecting New Westminster to Surrey in British Columbia, Canada. The apartment overlooks the river from New Westminster and Surrey lies across the river. I live in Surrey and recognized the location immediately.

I know this thread is 10 yrs old, but I just watched the movie so I thought I'd confirm that, according to the director in the Director's Commentary on the DVD it was definitely filmed in Vancouver. Didn't mention the name of the lake, but did mention that it was a glacier lake, meaning that the water was essentially melted ice and was below freezing. They had to put Anton into a wet suit below his clothes. He said in the commentary that he actually swam further than any of the bets the crew took about how far he could go in that freezing water.
The souvenir shop where they stopped on the way home was at a place called Britania Beach.
Actors do not have a job...they have a blast!
