Just like MadamChatterley2, I just finished this movie a few mintues ago and I'm pretty impressed about it! I thought this movie was kind of going to be lame but the trailer doesn't explain it all! Anyway, Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette were sensational and Shirley MacLaine was perfect - as always.

Gwen Stefani...
Picture her in 50 years...

I finished it a half an hour ago and was was too pleasently surprised. The movie not only moved me but it also was genuinly funny, goofy funny, like real life. The performances were awesome, and i was hooked till the very end. Wish there were more movies like these.

Yes i really liked this movie and was also surprised , because the trailer wasnt really that good. Has anyone read the book?

Speaking as a superficial man...I nearly fell asleep and fast-forwarded through a lot of it, but I did like the 'Cameron Diaz in her shirt and boots' scene and the 'Cameron Diaz in her bikini' scene.Sorry.But I'm sure there are ladies who fast-forward through the fight scenes etc in Johnny Depp movies too.

i liked the film, its kinda like sideways except for instead of guys it got gals... and old people...

This is YOUR LIFE and it is ending one minute at a time!

I enjoyed it too, far more than I expected. Toni Colette is the reason I watched it, but the whole movie was much more "real" than what I was expecting. The sister relationship was very well done and of course the romance between Rose and Simon rocked.

I do realize I am the ideal demographic for this film, but I am kind of bummed it just vanished in the theatre. This is definitely a woman's' film, but so much better than The Jane Austen Book Club. I didn't feel overly manipulated or insulted.

That is an excellent way to describe this movie. I was very surprised by how good this movie was. I think that I didn't see it at first because I was turned off by Cameron Diaz being involved. Turns out that she gave an outstanding performance as well as Toni and Shirley.

Just saw this movie and loved it too, because everything about it rang so true---the relationships between the characters--especially the sisters and their grandmother---it just struck me as so much more realistic than the usual dramas that Hollywood puts out---there was nothing about it that was too predictable, silly or unrealistic. Does anyone know why it didn't blow up at the box office---it got good promotion---what happened with it? I also liked the music, the cinematography---everything in it was so beautiful---it just struck me as very genuine----I was definitely feeling this flick. Only thing I didn't like about it is that when Rose caught Maggie with her worthless-a** boyfriend, all she did was scream at her----she should've have kicked both their asses and thrown them both the hell out in the street--that's what I would have done, anyway. I read a little of the book before I saw the film, which helped me understand why Maggie put herself and her family through all the messed-up BS she went through---sure she was the prettier one of the 2 sisters, but she obviously felt that she had nothing to offer anyone beyond her looks due to her disability, which led to her low self-esteem, which led to her living the wild life and being a thief. I happen to think Cameron Diaz is a really good actress (as well as Toni Colette, who is not a personal favorite but she's been in a lot of good films I've liked--MURIEL'S WEDDING, for starters, CLOCKWATCHERS,PASSING LANES,THE DEAD GIRL,and she usually has some good roles, so she's getting close). Anyway, I loved this flick, and it's certainly one of the best chick flicks I've seen in years.
