Seems ages since I saw it, just a few weeks ago, but thought I'd leave my views on the film anyway. It is a clever little film, based around two orphan siblings who take in a dumped puppy, somehow smuggle him into the orphanage and later into their adopted home in New York - a high-rise apartment where dogs are banned. Amazingly, they manage to 'hide' the dog from their adopted parents for some time before it rampages through a wedding reception, and is forced to leave the home... and the children... behind. But, as the title suggests, it has just a little twist to warm even the coldest of hearts. The star of the show might be the dog, but the acting skills of some of the humans cannot go amiss. The only ones allowed to develop sufficiently enough are the children. Makenzie Vega is, as usual, solid and she carries the film throughout admirably. It's surprising that she has not been able to shine with more lead roles in feature films, which she justifiably deserves. And little Abigail Breslin brings a slice of heartfelt sympathy to the children's plight, especially near the conclusion as she looks for her sister. Many of the younger kids in the cinema were visibly in tears by the end of the film and with good reason - it does more than just tug at your emotional side. It is, essentially, a kids' film which adults can also watch and smile at. And, if you ever get to see it on the big screen, hang around for the out-takes during the credits :)
