It was filmed in Paris. I have no idea whether it was set there or not

It's too late for your homework assignment of course, but you can read several street signs in the movie.

Rue des Iris - Rue Vulpian / George's house

Avenue Lenine / Majid's appartment

Then going to Google maps it's a cinch to find the exact locations even - but even those aren't always logical ... but you gotta love Google maps for things like this ...

And here's a tip about French movies. If no other large city is specified by some obvious means like a text layover, in conversation or by showing a well-known landmark, then simply assume it's supposed to be in Paris. But bear in mind that 'large city' is the operative word. Smaller provincial towns are easily recognizable by the smaller and generally less taller houses, more spacing between houses etc ... visual clues that are fairly obvious to anyone living in or been to France ...
