What a lousy movie !

... and don't give me that I didn't get this movie !
It basically is so slow that we watched it in fast forward....and which point my wife commented saying it's still so slow :-)
And there are no answers given at all. Movie ends abruptly showing the sons meeting at the college.
What a waste of time !

What answers? If you mean the answer to who sent the tapes, than you clearly did NOT get the movie

Sorry but this two sentences together are quite fun.
No surprise they didn't get something.

If a movie feels too slow, like many asian ones, better too leave it alone and go for another one. Unless one just want to see some monsters, killings or something visual you know it will offer. Then using the miniature to choose interesting scenes can be rewarding, something I do and enjoy with some horror movies which direction is bad or with dumnb empty stuff like Sharknado 2.

This is a challenging film filled with ambiguities. If you're not a fan of Michael Haneke's work, I could see why you may be disappointed.

However, Cache is a golden viewing experience.

Well, I was intriged all the way through, until the end, with the kid getting taken away in the car in the chicken yard, and then seeing all the kids coming out of school. What's up with that? I believed that the two Algerians didn't send the tapes, I started thinking the mother had something to do with it. But the ending left me pissed off, sort of like Rodin. We never got to see what was in the motherfraking brief case! It was the whole story, and then we never got to see what was so important about it! I hate movies like that, we get so involed and then, nothing. I took the time to read all those subtitles too. I am not familiar with this guys movies, so maybe I need to see more of them to get it.

reply

I took the time to read all those subtitles too

Excellent!

No one sent the videos. Or, YOU sent the videos, you lead the characters back to their pasts, you made that man slash his throat. Your suspicions made the son think his mother was having an affair. Get it now?

The movie you're talking about is Ronin and it was indeed pretty bad, but not necessarily because of that.

You must have hated Pulp Fiction then.

Definitely the worst film I saw in 2013. So boring, predictable, formulaic, and banal. I guess European films are like reality TV shows, horror films, and rom-coms... Either you like the genre or you don't. I just find this type of films very predictable and I get all the things the director is trying to do. The last time I disliked film this much was with War of the Worlds and Speed Racer (lol)

reply

Why don't you enlighten us?

reply

"So boring, predictable, formulaic and banal".

It was predictable that the dude cut his own throat? That the film ends with Georges just going to sleep behind closed shades and the two sons meeting at the schoolyard? The OP must be psychic. Also, "formulaic" is the one thing this film most assuredly was ain`t. And what`s so "banal" about it?

Boy howdy, I sure am glad that all European films are exactly the same genre. I was worried that maybe something like Caché might be completely different from The Firemen's Ball or Jules and Jim. Thanks for the blanket term to make sure that I have everything straight.

That or you're just incredibly ignorant about film in general. Take your pick.

reply

People have different opinions. My pick would be that you are extremely insecure person. I wouldn't give two cents if someone didn't like films that I liked. I think it's interesting how we all have different opinions and that is the point of art. Thanks for your time to reply to my opinion in a sarcastic and delightful manner. Notice what I did there? :p

reply

Genres have nothing to do with opinions. Either you know what you're talking about, or you don't. You just grouped all European films into a genre which means you're the latter. And you go on to call the other poster an insecure person. Incredible!

reply

I'm not really a fan of Haneke, but out of 4 films that I saw, I liked this one the most. Just because it can be interpreted a little bit deeper, and reminded me in some ways of the brilliant "Lost Highway".
