Embroidery Tool?

Can anyone tell me the name of the tool they use to make the beautiful veils and shawls? I know I can never do it, but I'd love to know!!

When all else fails, read the instructions!

I think it's a tambour hook. Its like a tiny crochet hook, and you use it to work a chain stitch on the top of the stretched fabric.

I've been trying to get hold of one for ages, but the only ones I've seen for sale are antiques. It looks as if you can buy them in France, if only I knew the French name for them

How funny to find this thread (hah! thread! aherm...). I saw this film on BBC4 last night, and was particularly fascinated by the scenes showing Claire embroidering the stretched net with this tool, which I was determined to find out more about. It does look like a tambour hook - I don't know whereabouts you are, but I found them for sale on a UK based haberdashery supplier's website, here: http://www.fredaldous.co.uk/shop-online/tambour-hook-work.htm. Looks as if they ship overseas, if you're outside the UK and really can't find any available cheaper/closer to you! Thought it might be some help, anyway :-)

I am in Australia, and I too, watched this film only last night. Wonderful film, beautifully directed. Great acting.
