I kept worrying the baby was a product of incest, since she was so down about it, hiding it, saying it might be a mongrel, etc...

So who were you led to believe was the father? that boy behind the butcher counter at the supermarket? or...?

I thought it might have been Madame Mélikian's dead son.

In the end though it didn't really seem to matter.

Sometimes it helps to be french : The father is the guy with the sidecar she met near the supermarket. She told him she didn't hate him but she didn't want to see him again.

I was wondering that too. I agree with whomever posted that at the end it didn't seem to matter so much.
