A Rose Theatre by Any Other Name

If the answer to my question was explained in the show, I have missed it after several viewings.

Question:
When the series starts out the performances are given in the "Swan Theater".
I think it was the Macbeth season where the name had changed to the "Rose Theater".

Anybody know the explanation?

Thanks,
Steve

I don't think any real explanation was given in the show. The only one is the Shakespeare connection. The Swan and also the Rose were rival theatre companies to Shakespeare's theatre company.Strange, they could have called the place either the Globe or the Curtain but didn't. I wonder if the writers were making some subtextual statement that whatever Shakespeare production went into this theatre, it would encounter some adversity. Each production under Geoffrey certainly did have its major issues.

Well it could just be a mistake, but the show is also loosely based on the Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario (among other festivals and theatres, I know) and that festival takes place in four different theatres around town.

There could easily be a Swan and Rose theatre and the shows are spread out between them.

I think that the production company was unable to get the first location when filming subsequent seasons.

What's....this....ruckus?
