Live action movie

I saw somewhere a link to www.kurokou.com which is apparantly about an actual live action movie of the series (or perhaps live action series?) but it's all in Japanese, so all I can gather is the date july 23rd, though I don't know if that's this year or next. Can anyone help me out?

reply

I don't know a whole lot about it... just that Walter Cromartie, the baseball player, sued the filmmakers because he thought they were defaming his name. Go figure.

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

reply

Hahahahhah, Hell no! I can't tell who is supposed to be who except for Kamiyama. What a cutie!

You HAVE to see this movie!! I just watched it, and it's even better than the anime!

And the unidentified guy is a random actor that Kamiyama hired to join the GDF.

The movie is good when it stands alone. But compared to the anime and manga it doesn't even come close. There are way too many things they messed up. Also the creater had never even read the manga before making the movie.

Good, just not on a Cromartie level.

For an adaptation it was well done. I was a bit disapointed that Hayashida didn't have his purple waving mohawak. He was probably the worst adapted character of the bunch just because they missed his key feature.

Extremely Vague semi-spoilers.

Mechazawa and his little brother were dead on accurate. I don't think they could have handled them better.

Kamiyama was well cast as well, Just your typical average Japanese High School student.

I was also impressed with the casting of Takenuchi. Sure he wasn't bald but he may have been one of the best cast members of anyone. He acted his part perfectly.

Hakudo and his Lackey were also dead on for their parts.

Freddie was great as well but he missed the mark occasionally. Mainly he moved around too much in some scenes.

Maeda's mom was hilarious. Though I am not sure they should have given her the whole angry attitude.

As for comedic style and timing, it drifted from Cromartie's style occasionally but in many instances it was dead on for the anime.
-Takenuchi's scenes matched his anime styled equivalents very closely from camera angles to zoom outs and everything.
-The hijacker's scenes were all brilliantly on the mark, especially at the end.

A live action Cromartie movie? This is awesome! This makes my day! When can we expect to see this here in the US? Or is the DVD available yet?

reply

Yeah, just hit the amazon DVD link to order on cromarties IMDB page.

I agree, it did have a couple of small slip-ups, but this is a fantastic adaptation. Does anybody know if ADV (who distributed Cro-High in America) will try to pick up the movie? I'm happy w/ my imported copy, but it would be nice to see the live movie in stores. Oh, and by the way, I can never seem to find anything about Eiji Nonaka! I don't even really know what he looks like (unless his appearences in the manga are really what he looks like). Does anybody know where I can find more information on him?

reply

If you watch the opening menu bit of the Cromartie High Volume 2 DVD (I think it's 2), you see a guy in a record shop doing something. Isn't that Eiji Nonaka?

You're right about the highjacker. He forgot his mask. The guy with the glasses is actor Kai Ato. Earlier in the movie, Kamiyama says they need a group of seven for Hokuto's task force, so they recruit an actor, who agreed as long as he doesn't have to go film any movies.

It was such a dumb movie it's great.

I actually realized it wasn't bad at all. Not exactly like the Anime, but not bad.
