Super Hands

Any other viewers out there who thought his name was 'Super Hands'?

It took me a fair minute to finally realize that it was actually Hans. I figure Hans is a relatively known name in the UK? I'm guessing I'm not the only American who wasn't really familiar with the name Hans, especially when it's pronounced almost exactly like "hands"! Haha. Curious to know if it went over anyone else's head for a while.

Surely you've heard of Hans Christian Andersen. If not Hans Landa from Inglorious Basterds or Hans and Franz from SNL?

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

It's not that common in the UK. I would guess it originates from Germany (Northern Europe) the character also mentions Germany and German things a few times.

Also micirisi you forgot that most famous Hans of all. I won't say his last name but he did "fall" out of a skyscraper window in LA

reply

I know who you're referring to but this is how the OP got sidetracked. He/she watched Die Hard whose principal antagonist was Hands Gruber.

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

reply

Actually never saw Die Hard (have mercy on me, I know I should've seen it by now)....

reply

Never seen Die Hard??
You are banned from the internet, work, the pub basically anywhere until you sort this out!

reply

Definitely heard of Hans Christian Andersen, but not the other two. It's definitely the pronunciation that threw me off, because I actually have an uncle (from Germany) named Hans. His name is pronounced 'Hahns', and I guess that's how I assumed it was always vocalized.

Rereading my post, I realize I made an error when I said that I was unfamiliar with the name Hans. I meant to say that I was unfamiliar with it being pronounced like 'hands'.

reply

Haven't you ever heard of Hans Olo?

reply

No, but I've heard of Barracko Bama

I was never one to hold grudges. My father held grudges, I'll always hate him for that

I thought is was Super Hands for almost six years. It wasn't until I watched it with subtitles on randomly one day that I saw it was Super Hans.

Until I just read this post and confirmed on the IMDb header page, I thought it was Super Hands as well. Cause he could mix such sick beats in the studio and all that. Like "magic fingers".

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

reply

I'm assuming that Hans had some German blood. When asked about the age of his twins he relies:
"What's fünf in English? They turned fünf zwei years ago. So, a pair of eighters, I reckon?"
Definitely a favourite character, after Johnson. He wins, especially after his speech in the carpark as JLB is closing down, his pronunciation of "Frankfurt" still cracks me up.

Super Hans. It is an odd name. Why is he Super?
I doubt the name Hans is any more or less well known than in the US. I've never met anyone called Hans but if you asked most people to list some German Christian names, Hans would be near the top of the list.
He seems to have spent time in Germany as noted above although has a very London accent.
He's great.

I've heard of the name Hans, but still thought it was was Hands till I read about the show. Hands would make sense since he's a musician.
