James Wan. Horror Genre God?

James Wan caused international shock when he released 'Saw' (2004). Audience's were not prepared for the graphic on screen horror which Saw had an abundance of. Does this make James Wan an pioneer of the Horror genre, or a sick minded human being?
Furthermore do you think the career choice of James Wan tackling the Action genre, will expose a new style for the genre?

I think he has been a pioneer. At the same time I think torture horror is not very entertaining and a bit disturbing.

James Wan has never made torture porn. He directed the first Saw, which was not torute porn, and then only produced the sequels.

I don't see why making a lot of horror movies makes him a "sick minded human being". Stephen King has talked at length about how he is just a normal guy but many people assume he must be some crazy sadist.

Horror movies are popular and tend to make a lot of money relative to their budget, so people clearly like watching them. Some people just like making them as well as watching them.

Anyway, James Wan is a very good director but I don't know if I would call him a horror god. Saw and Insidious are very good. Dead Silence was awful and The Conjuring is an extremely overrated, generic re-tread of Poltergeist, Amityville Horror, and about a half a dozen other movies. I haven't seen The Conjuring 2 so I can't comment on it. So in his fifteen year career he's about maybe 3 truly good horror movies. I don't think he is in the same league as guys like Wes Craven, George A. Romero, or John Carpenter. Or if he is he hasn't quite proven it yet. Good for him he's still pretty young.

Sorry, but Saw was absolutely horrible directed! Just because you like the movie doesn't make him a great artist.

I’d hardly call him a God. He’s definitely someone who took it up a notch. If look at horror movies through out history many make their marks in different ways. He’s definitely one of them. But let’s not forget John Carpenter, Wes Craven and more. Watch the documentary Going To Pieces.

Saw was his best work in the horror genre. Haven't seen Conjuring 2, but Dead Silence and The Conjuring were just ok.

I guess with the amount of stuff he produces he's definitely one of the top players in the horror genre today, but quantity is not more important than quality

I respect his contributions, but I would not put him on the same level as the Carpenters or Cravens.

I don't put him up there either, what I meant is there are way better creators than him. He just took things to another level with Saw. Wes Craven is by far one of my all-time favorites and he always will be. No one compares to him in my mind. Look at his early work if you haven't and you will see he was way ahead of his time esp. with Last House On The Left. I've only seen it once and that was enough for me. The Scream series alone was wonderful too and a great new way to look at horror.
