The Helm?

I missed a few minutes of the film so I apologise if my question doesn't make sense but...

When the queen told the king that he must kill Siegfried or she would kill herself couldn't they just have had someone else killed while wearing the helm that makes the wearer look like someone else?

I honestly expected that this is what was going to happen and that Siegfried would then leave the kingdom and start anew somewhere else.
