The argument for filesharing

Say what you will about illegal downloading but having buckets of money is clearly turning these people into *beep* They think nothing to hire a $40,000 a month psychologist to endlessly talk about their petty issues about, buying art just because they can and f off to shoot bears in Russia instead being with their kids on their birthdays. I'm sure they would appreciate life more and probably make better music if they had to experience some struggling.

I have to say, I've discovered some great music by downloading off the internet for free. With a number of bands, the music I've downloaded and listened to has led me to go to their shows, buy t-shirts, etc. If I'd had to spend the money on the music in the hopes of liking it, I wouldn't have bothered. In short, thanks to free downloading, a number of bands have gained me as a fan, and have made me willing to pay them money for doing what they do. They wouldn't have gotten that benefit otherwise.

For the original poster...."If they had to struggle" I highly doubt soon as they formed a band, boom, they made millions. They paid their dues starting out like other bands have had to. Personal lives? I know James lost his mother when he was a teen, that is very hard to deal with.

Who are you to say what is an appropriate "struggle"? They paid their dues, they've made the big bucks and if they want to spend it on a shrink, so be it, they earned the money, good for them. People who earn money by the work they've done, whether you like the work or not, are not the bad guys.

Yes I agree he should have been at his son's 1st birthday, that was a bad decision on his part, and it was also a decision he made when he was messed up. I applaud him and anyone for that matter getting clean and making amends.

Metallica is not perfect, there is definitely some arrogance and spoiled attitudes on some parts, however, they are human just like us and are not perfect. If you're looking for the perfect band, they do not exist. Since when are musicians or anyone else supposed to be flawless?

I'm not going to hate on them because they have money to spend, they earned it. I'm not going to hate on them because they've changed in style, bands change, it happens.

Filesharing is still *beep* stealing. It's the same as walking in a record shop, putting a record in your coat and walking out. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

The irony for me is back in the 70's and 80's Lars and many other metal communities would trade tapes of bands, making copies etc and post them to each other all around the world. It was a low tech version of file sharing and helped a lot of bands including Metallica establish fan bases well before they toured far off places.

File Sharing is not that different albeit it reaches a much larger audience.
