Any other films like this?

Just watched this last night, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The thing I found most interesting was watching their creative process at work, the way in which they write their songs.

Does anyone know of any other good documentaries about bands/musician's writing/recording albums?
I really don't care what genre of music, I'm fairly open to that.

Cheers

Actually, a pretty good one is another Metallica film called "A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica," which chronicles the making of the Black Album and the subsequent tour.

The Wilco documentary I'm Trying to Break Your Heart about the making of the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album is very similar complete with all the infighting and drama.

Off the top of my head, there's 'Let it be' which follows a similar story. Perhaps 'Sympathy for the devil', which i really liked...but some people downright hate. I'm guessing but i think you might like 'American movie' most (if you haven't seen it already), which isn't about the creative process on making music, rather a personal struggle of life and making movies.

I felt a distinct feeling of Spinal Tap over this film, only that they were not acting.

Yes, watch a year and a half, it is truly wonderful - and shows metallica at the height of their popularity and consequently lunacy.

Also regarding spinal tap, one interesting point to note is that several rock legends have stated they dont see why its so funny, because many of them have experienced those things exactly how its played in "this is.." - which I found very amusing.

Some Kind of Monster is one of my favorite music docs.
Yes, the Anvil doc is awesome.

Here are some other good ones:
LoudQuietLoud featuring The Pixies reunion.
New York Doll featuring New York Dolls bassist Arthur Kane.
You're Gonna Miss Me featuring Roky Erikson of 13th Floor Elevators

Okay, this is totally not "metal" but it's my favourite music-documentary (second one would be Some kind of Monster): LET'S GET LOST about Chet Baker, by Bruce Webber.

It looks great (in grainy black and white) and the interviews with chet baker and the women of his life are just fascinating with all the drugs and all the ... lies he told.

Watch the new Oasis documentary "Supersonic". It is just as good, if not better, than this great documentary!

I really like the documentary, "God Bless Ozzy Osbourne".

Tom Servo: He's a pretty good candidate for monster food.
