Sean Astin deserves an Oscar

Sean Astin was amazing in his role.... This trilogy is the best of all time. There was not one dry eye in the house throughout this movie.... even a tough guy like me was teary-eyed!!!!

Long live the King Aragon!!!

I agree he was very good, but 10 years from now when kids who have seen this movie are almost grown up they are going to see him in a different movie and say "look it's the fat hobbit"

I agree with you - Sean Astin was terrific! He brought a warmth and reality to the character of Sam that I felt was lacking in the book. Actually, I thought all the principal actors (and actresses) did a commendable job of bringing their characters to life. Along with Sean, I felt that Ian McKellan was excellent as Gandalf - and little Elijah Wood succeeded in portraying the "tormented" Frodo very well indeed. And Andy Serkis' "Gollum" was outstanding! As you can probably tell, I absolutely LOVED this film! If they don't give Peter Jackson the Oscar for "Best Director" this year, I'm going to be very disappointed!

I completely agree with most, if not all, of the things that have been said here. Yes, years from now, we will be saying "LOOK! IT'S SAM!" when Sean Astin comes onscreen, but that is a chance that they all took. Even now, I do that. I saw part of THE FACULTY this past weekend, and when I saw Elijah was completely thinking about Frodo. All of these actors were amazing. I'm very pleased with their preformances. However, my personal favorite (Mostly because he took me by surprise) was Billy Boyd as Pippin. He is an extremely talented actor, and he startled me. Being the oldest of the actors playing hobbits, it was odd that he was playing the youngest hobbit. He managed to pull it off and give the audience a wonderful show. (The song. That's all I need to say.)
