I haven't tried with the Palantir of Sauron, and I haven't tried it with Merry (yet), but if you play Palantir of Sauron with Pippen he says a bunch of wise ass things at the beginning of each "wave". I can't remember them all, but it was stuff like "I'm doing great!" and "great fighters run in my family".

This is why I love the Palantir of Saruman level..I like playing all the characters to see all the wisecracks and trashtalking. I have played the palantir of Sauron many times and they don't say anything there.
