mostly based on Leonardo Dicaprio

So I understand that this is supposed to be what Mark Walhberg went through in Hollywood.

But Vince's path is closer to Leo's if you look at it. Vince's whole thing is about integrity and picking the best roles. Leo does the same. He never does a sequel like Vince and will shoot down million dollar offers if the role isnt for him.

also, neither did slap-stick comedies

I think you missed the point

I missed it too then ..... connect the dots. The show is loosely based on Mark Wahlberg an his own entourage. Johnny Drama is REAL .... the guy is Wahlberg's 'cousin' of some sort, and was first to Hollywood. He brought Mark out there, housed him, and cooked for him and the crew just like Drama does on Entourage. Walberg had a buddy named 'Donkey' that Turtle is modeled after. He died shortly before the show ever began. Eric E Murphy is a mixture of Marks long time friend, and his business manager. And Ari Gold is modeled after Ari Emmanuel, Wahlberg's real life, alpha male agent. Vince's first big studio movie, Aquaman, is supposed to be similar to Marks first big studio film, The Perfect Storm (they share water and are big movies .... other than that, I don't see the similarity there - but that's what Walberg said).

I don't get where this is closer to DiCaprio than to Walberg, whom the show is ACTUALLY based after. Aside from the fact that they both have their own entourage's .... and Kevin Connolly was actually a part of DiCaprio's entourage before breaking out on his own, I do not see how Entourage is closer to Leo than Mark.

Look at how Vince and Leo are very particular in picking their movies. Mark Walhberg doestn have the same integrity that Leo has.

I have no doubt in my mind that Vince is more like Leo than Mark.

I see what you're saying but i think if anything it was by coincidence only. And for certain the similarities end before season 4. I don't think Leo has ever had a Medellin moment in his career or anything that followed in the Entourage seasons for the most part.

I 100% know what you're talking about though and i do see those similarities to Leo in the early seasons of the show when Vince had alot of integrity and was doing solid movies lol

Critters 3 is very slapsticky :D~

I definitely don't see any similarities other than the integrity of choosing roles but Leo isn't the only actor to do that.

I think Vince's integrity and being picky about the roles he takes was just for the sake of storytelling, not based on anyone's career in particular. Vince taking whatever's going to pay him the most doesn't make for compelling story arcs.

But it got me to thinking when re-watching the show. Are we supposed to side with Vince and admire his integrity and passion? Because more times than not I think he's being needlessly difficult and just want him to shut up and do what Ari tells him to do.

I thought it was interesting that Vince did an indie that gained him acclaim, like Leo in Basketball Diaries. Then Vince went on to do a mega-budget blockbuster, Leo did Titanic. Then Vince went out on a limb with a project that had a troubled production and eventually bombed (Medellin) while Leo had a similar experience with The Beach. Then Vince was ressurected by Scorsese with Gatsby, while Leo came back with Scorsese's Gangs of New York. In terms of the Entourage itself I'm sure it is based on Wahlberg's experiences, but the career trajectory seems to echo Leo's.

No, as talked about by Doug Ellen and Mark Wahlberg many times, the change from Marky Mark to Vince came from Grenier himself. They had a terrible time casting the roll, and when somebody mentioned Grenier, he refused to come read for it. They had to fly down to Mexico just to talk to him. And once he got the part, it was pretty obvious he would never be the Wahlberg type, so Ellen created the character like Adrian himself.
